Davao City braces for `Bayanihan Bakunahan 3′ set February 10 and 11

Preparations shift to high gear as Davao City participates in the third National Vaccination Days (NVD), dubbed the “Bayanihan Bakunahan Part 3” set on February 10 and 11, 2022.

This was bared by Davao City COVID-19 Task Force Spokesperson Dr. Michelle Schlosser during a Viber interview with the City Information Office (CIO) on Monday afternoon, February 7, 2022.

“We will have the same preparations for the NVD just like the past two NVDs we had before. We are opening all vaccination hubs that will target all 12 years old and above Dabawenyos,” she said.

If logistics (special syringes and reformulated Pfizer anti-COVID-19 vaccines)for the five to 11 years old vaccination rollout are ready by then, Dr. Schlosser said they might also be able to cater to them during the NVD.

She also said that they aim for more booster doses to be administered during the two-day inoculation activity.

The city health official continued, “Data is showing that we are almost 100 percent na sa herd immunity. Gusto nato paspasan ang booster para mutaas ang outcome (The data is showing that we are almost 100 percent in reaching herd immunity. We want to hasten the booster vaccination and achieve a better turnout).”

Based on Davao City’s total population of 1,897,861, at least 65.76 percent of the 70 percent target population protection or herd immunity has already been achieved as of February 4, 2022, with 1,248,068 fully vaccinated Dabawenyos. Of this number, only 181,757 have availed of the booster shots.

Davao City also recorded 1,289,103 administered first doses so far.

Dr. Schlosser, however, said they are still waiting for DOH to send the target number of outcomes for the city’s NVD.

She added that the first two `Bayanihan Bakunahan’ in Davao City were based on achieving herd immunity. The third edition, according to her, will focus on the booster shots as there are still over a million fully vaccinated individuals who have not yet received the boosters.

She also urged Dabawenyos to visit the nearest vaccination site, not just during the NVD but also on regular vaccination days if they are not available on February 10 and 11, 2022
