After their closure for decontamination, the Crocodile Park and the People’s Park are operational again as vaccination hubs of Davao City.
These vaccination hubs were closed for decontamination after some of the health care workers and vaccinators tested positive for the Sars-CoV-2, the virus that causes the coronavirus disease. Decontamination was done to ensure that the sites do not become the source of infection.
Speaking over the Davao City Disaster Radio Covid-19 Alert Program Wednesday, Covid-19 Spokesperson Dr. Michelle Schlosser assured that the healthcare workers at the site are properly screened.
“I can assure the public nga walay dapat ikahadlok ang atong mga health care worker nga gipa-duty didto. All are Reverse Transcript-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) negative and walay nga infections or symptoms na COVID related. (I can assure the public that the health care workers deployed in the area have negative RT-PCR and are not exhibiting Covid-19 like symptoms),” Schlosser said.
She added that the workers contracting the virus is inevitable because they are on the frontlines in combatting the Covid-19 virus by administering vaccines at the various sites of the city.
Schlosser said that there were a total of 24 health care workers in both parks and those who were positive were mild and asymptomatic cases.
With the reopening of the parks, more vaccinations for booster shots are targeted.
“We are back in the game na po tayo sa pag-booster and we are aiming to do it as fast as we can (We are back in the game for the booster and we are aiming to do it as fast as we can),” she said.
In her previous interview, she said that the City Government of Davao targets to administer 24,000 to 27,000 booster shots daily. The booster shot is another layer of protection for Dabawenyos amid the Covid-19 surge that the city is currently experiencing.
For a smooth vaccination continuity, Schlosser said the wearing of face shields for health care workers/vaccinators at the sites is mandatory.
“We do not want nga mahutdan mi ug manpower kay ginapaspasan namo ang pagbooster sa katawhan. So if there is a necessity for an added protection para dili mi magkasakit we will do that (We do not want our manpower to deplete because we are fast-tracking the booster shots for the public. So if there is a necessity for an added protection that we [health workers] will not get sick, we will do that),” she said.
Schlosser urged the public who are going to vaccination sites to be responsible for isolating and quarantining if they are experiencing Covid symptoms before going to vaccination sites.
“If you have Covid-19 symptoms pwede ikaw na mag-decide for quarantine and swabbing. The faster nga ma-identify, the faster ma mitigate and infection, (If you have Covid-19 symptoms, you can already decide for yourself to quarantine and swabbing. The faster the case is identified, the faster it can be mitigated),” Schlosser said.
She said that all vaccination sites in the city are open for first, second, missed doses for 18 years old above and the pediatric.
