Outdoor exercises, non-contact sports allowed for all ages: Davao COVID-19 TF

As restrictions ease due to the downgrading of Davao City’s alert level status from level 4 to 3, starting October 20 to 31, 2021, outdoor exercises and outdoor non-contact sports are now allowed for all ages.

This was bared by Davao COVID-19 Task Force Spokesperson Dr. Michelle Schlosser during the COVID-19 Alert program over 87.5 FM Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR) yesterday, October 20.

“Diri sa atoang guidelines sa Alert Level 3, allowed ang outdoor exercise for all ages (In our Alert Level 3 guidelines, outdoor exercises are allowed for all ages). That means even the kids and senior citizens, they can do that since it is within essential activities,” she said. Persons with comorbidities can also exercise outdoors.

But she reminded parents to accompany their children when they exercise outside of their homes and to observe the minimum public health standards (MPHS) such as wearing face masks and social distancing from their non-family members.

She reiterated that minors and senior citizens can leave their residences only when accessing food and essential services like medical check-ups or hospitalization and exercise. Otherwise, they will have to stay at home.

“It relies on the essentiality and purpose of the travel,” the city health official said.

Dr. Schlosser said the city’s alert level status depends on the number of its active COVID-19 cases and vaccination compliance.

She added, “Kinahanglan, to achieve a better alert level, gina-engganyo gyud nato ang tanan nga magpabakuna aron ma achieve nato ang herd immunity as fast as we can and we will be able to enjoy all together ang mga luag nga restrictions (To achieve a better alert level, we encouraged everyone to get vaccinated so we can achieve herd immunity as fast as we can and we will all be able to enjoy together with the easing of restrictions).”

Health protocols and guidelines for establishments will also relax once the city achieves an improved alert level classification.

“This is a collaborative effort. Dili lang national government o local LGU

but individually atong contribution ang magpabakuna na para ma-achieve ang mas luag nga protocols (This is not just the effort of the national government or the local LGU but also our individual contribution to get vaccinated to achieve loosened protocols),” she said.

Alert Level 3 refers to areas wherein COVID-19 case counts are high and/or increasing, with increasing total bed utilization rate and intensive care utilization rate.

As per the IATF Guidelines on the Implementation of Alert Levels System for COVID-19 Response in Pilot Areas (as of October 13), contact sports are prohibited except those conducted under a bubble-type setup, such as the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), as provided for under relevant guidelines and adopted by the IATF, Games and Amusement Board, and Philippines Sports Commission, and approved by the LGU.
